The approximately 50-kilometer long mountain variant of the Rothaarsteig trail offers guests in Breitscheid a beautifully staged hiking dream on the 'Path of the Senses,' connecting the Hanseatic city of Brilon with the Orange City of Dillenburg. On the Westerwald-Steig from Herborn via Breitscheid to Bad Hönningen, hikers are treated to expansive views of the diverse landscape. Hike through Hesse's oldest nature reserve, climb a coral reef, catch fantastic views and insights into caves, adits, and burial chambers from the earliest human settlements – all this is possible for visitors to the Karst and Cave Educational Trail. The 3-8 kilometer long circular route on the Westerwald-Steig leads through 24 stations to geological peculiarities: from the Erdbach sinkhole over the Homberg to the Steinkammern, Hesse's Geotope of the Year 2015.
